eCLOUD

Norman Y. Mineta International Airport
San Jose, California, USA

eCLOUD - quadratischen Paneelen aus elektrisch schaltbarem Smart Glass im Flughafen

MAKING WEATHER DATA EMOTIONALLY RESONANT: EMPHATIC STORYTELLING OF NATURAL PHENOMENA.

eCLOUD is a dynamic sculpture inspired by the volume and behavior of an idealized cloud. The sculpture consists of thousands of small square panels of electrically switchable Smart Glass performing as pixels. The animations moving through eCloud are based on real-time weather data from 100 different destination airports.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration provides these data. A monolithic Dynamic Display communicates the current dataset to the viewers.

AirFIELD

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport
Atlanta, Georgia, USA

AirFIELD - runde helle Kreise auf Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Atlanta, Georgia, USA

TRANSLATING AIR TRAFFIC INTO HUMAN-CENTRIC ART: MAKING VISIBLE THE INVISIBLE.

The AirFIELD is a dynamic sculpture synched to real-time flight data reflecting the heart-beat of the world’s busiest air travel hub, the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The sculpture is composed of thousands of custom-made Liquid Crystal discs that change from opaque to transparent states with an electric charge. A custom-engineered computer program controls all of the sculpture’s 1,500 discs.

The software constantly monitors a live stream of Atlanta flight traffic data that triggers generative motion behavior rippling throughout the sculpture.

UNLOCKING THE POTENTIAL OF DYNAMIC MATERIALS:
INTERDISCIPLINARY R&D COLLABORATION.

eFLOW is an interactive sculpture celebrating the unique capabilities of E Ink Prism™, a color-changing film developed by E Ink. The sculpture comes alive with visual behavior triggered by real-time sensor input; it detects the presence and movements of people and reacts like an elusive deep-sea creature. In this sculpture the unique material organically fades between white and black. The visual dominance can be adjusted similar to a dimmer switch on a light source.

DAZZLE

San Diego
International Airport
California, USA

Dazzle - animierte Architektur in San Diego International Airport California, USA

ANIMATED ARCHITECTURE ON LANDMARK SCALE: CREATING ZERO ENERGY MEDIATECTURE.

A mediatecture art piece transforming the half kilometer long façade of the San Diego airport rental car center into a landmark mural. The bold graphic elements are animated by color-changing film and are seen daily by hundreds of thousands of motorists on the adjacent Inter-state 5 Freeway. Composed of 2,100 e-paper panels – each autonomously solar-powered and computer controlled – DAZZLE animates the entire building façade using sustainable, programmable technology. Each e-paper panel is orchestrated to collectively display animations that evoke water ripples, moving traffic and dancing snowflakes.
